Isabel Wolte received her PhD at the Beijing Film Academy after three years of intensive study. The English title of her dissertation, which was written in Chinese, is North of the Huai, Mandarines Become Oranges - Adaptations of World Literature in Chinese Cinema.

This is the first systematic study of adaptations of non-chinese literature in chinese cinema. In addition to providing a first comprehensive list of these adaptations, the dissertation focusses on the nature of the adaptations and the unique Chinese characteristics in the resulting work.
